The Brand
Sabarmati Ashram is the historic home of Mahatma Gandhi that stands as a symbol of India’s freedom movement. The Government of Gujarat, along with the Government of India, envisioned restoring and expanding the ashram to its original scale, reviving its cultural and historical significance for future generations.
01 The Challenges
A project of this scale came with scrutiny. Questions around intent, execution, and preservation sparked public debate and media skepticism.
The task was not just communication, it was reassurance.
- Build trust around a sensitive, heritage-driven project
- Clearly articulate the government’s vision
- Align public sentiment with national significance
- Deliver everything within extremely tight timelines
02 The Solution
Communication Crafts approached the mandate with sensitivity, depth, and strategic storytelling.
- Narrative Building: Crafted a film that reframed the narrative — from controversy to cultural restoration
- Contextual Truth: Highlighted how the ashram had shrunk from 120 acres and 63 structures to just 5 acres and 3 buildings
- Emotional Storytelling: Positioned the ashram as Gandhiji’s karmabhoomi, reconnecting audiences with its legacy
- Digital Extension: Developed a website that mirrored the same tone; sincere, informative, and immersive
- Amplification: Leveraged official government channels to ensure credibility and reach
03 The Result
The narrative shifted from doubt to understanding.
The film struck an emotional chord, helping audiences see the project as a restoration of history rather than a redevelopment effort. The website became a central hub for transparent communication, reinforcing trust and clarity.
